Where to stay in Phu Quoc matters more than you might think, because the island is long and its areas are far apart. Pick the right one and you walk to the beach and stroll the night market after dinner; pick the wrong one and you spend an hour in a car every day. This guide compares the five most popular areas on the island, now part of the Phu Quoc special zone in An Giang province, so you can match the area to your trip.
Duong Dong: the town, the night market, the food
Duong Dong is the main town on the west coast, home to the night market, the seafood market, plenty of restaurants and lots of small and mid-size hotels. Every other part of the island is easy to reach from here.
- Pros: rooms at every budget, walk out for dinner, sunset on the beach close to the centre.
- Cons: busier and noisier; the town beach is not as pretty as the more remote ones.
- Best for: first-timers, groups of friends, seafood and night-market fans.

Long Beach (Bai Truong): resorts, a long beach, near the airport
Long Beach stretches south of Duong Dong and is lined with resorts and beachfront hotels. Phu Quoc International Airport is nearby, so you can be at your room soon after landing.
- Pros: a wide beach, great sunsets, many resorts with pools and beach access.
- Cons: some stretches are far from independent restaurants, so you rely on the resort.
- Best for: families and couples on a relaxing break.
An Thoi, Sao Beach and Khem Beach: the south
The southern tip has An Thoi town, the pier for island boat trips, the sea-crossing cable car to Hon Thom, and two famous white-sand beaches on the east side, Sao and Khem.
- Pros: close to snorkelling tours, the cable car and the best water.
- Cons: far from Duong Dong, with fewer evening dining options.
- Best for: beach lovers, island hoppers and longer stays.
The north: Bai Dai, Ganh Dau, Cua Can
The north is quiet, with large theme parks and resorts, the long and wild Bai Dai beach and the fishing village of Ganh Dau looking out to sea. It suits families with young children who want everything in one place, or anyone avoiding crowds.
Getting around the island
Phu Quoc is large and its best beaches are spread out, so you will need transport. Renting a scooter is the most common choice, but only if you are an experienced rider with a valid licence. With small children, or if you are not confident on two wheels, ride-hailing apps or a car booked through your hotel for the day are safer. Some larger resorts run shuttles to Duong Dong at set times, so ask before you book. Parts of the coast road are poorly lit at night, so head back early or take a car if you are staying far from town. When comparing places to stay, add travel time to the price: a cheaper room that costs you more than an hour on the road each day is rarely a bargain.

Split your stay in two
If you have four nights or more, many visitors split the trip: a few nights in Duong Dong or Long Beach for the night market and restaurants, then a few in the south or north for beaches and tours. It saves long drives every day and lets you see two very different sides of the island. Once you know your area, open the Phu Quoc hotel finder for listings with phone numbers, and pick up beach sandals and bags for your island days. Scooters are the usual way around the island; if you are not confident on two wheels, ask your hotel to book a car.
